When Squall passes his field test to the Fire Cavern and then completes the mission at Dollet, he graduates from being an ordinary cadet and becomes a SeeD, a special mercenary soldier whose job it is to carry out orders given by Balamb Garden. As a SeeD, you will be paid in Gil, the currency of the Final Fantasy VIII world, according to your rank. You raise your rank through your actions in battles and through taking the SeeD written tests. The table below indicates how much Gil Squall will receive at each possible SeeD rank.
